Medtech Startup Competes for Global Recognition and $1 Million Prize

MORGANTOWN, WV (September 17, 2024) — Moodr Health, an innovative medtech startup, is set to compete in the 2024 Startup World Cup Semifinals in San Francisco on October 2nd. As a trailblazer in mental health technology, Moodr Health will vie for a chance to win a $1 million prize and global recognition, standing alongside top startups from around the world. The event, hosted by Pegasus Tech Ventures, is the world’s largest startup competition and brings together over 100 regional winners from six continents.

Having secured its place in the competition after winning the IgniteWV pitch competition in April, Moodr Health’s participation highlights its pioneering mental health solution designed to serve some of society’s most vulnerable populations. With a mission to provide personalized, real-time support, the solution focuses on critical areas such as substance use disorders, student mental health, and perinatal mental health—issues that disproportionately affect underserved communities. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly 1 in 4 people in the US live with a mental health illness (58 million individuals), underscoring the urgent need for innovative solutions like those offered by Moodr Health.

“Our work is deeply personal because we know that behind every statistic is a mother struggling with postpartum depression, a student battling anxiety, or an individual fighting substance use disorder,” said Michelle Hopkins, Chief Customer Success Officer at Moodr Health. “We are driven by the belief that everyone deserves access to compassionate, timely mental health care, no matter their circumstances. The Startup World Cup gives us the chance to show how our technology can bridge the gap for those who often feel overlooked.”

Since being selected for the Startup World Cup, Moodr Health has seen remarkable growth. The company has expanded from supporting 1,500 patients to over 18,000 patients in just a few months and entered new verticals, including higher education and substance use disorder services, with several key customers in these sectors. This impressive expansion demonstrates Moodr Health’s ability to scale quickly and meet the urgent needs of those who are often underserved by traditional healthcare systems.

By delivering tailored interventions in real time, Moodr Health is redefining mental health care, ensuring individuals receive timely, personalized support that meets their unique needs. This proactive approach helps prevent challenges from escalating into crises, offering individuals the care they need before it’s too late.

“Our solution is more than just a tool—it’s a lifeline for those who might otherwise slip through the cracks,” said Arya Satish, COO of Moodr Health. “We’ve developed a system that doesn’t just react to mental health crises but actively engages individuals before their challenges escalate. By providing timely, personalized support, we’re reducing the likelihood of crises and offering hope to those who often feel invisible in traditional healthcare settings.”

As the first startup selected to represent the Mid-Atlantic region at the Startup World Cup, Moodr Health is also showcasing West Virginia’s rapidly growing tech sector and the region’s commitment to fostering innovation that can make a real-world impact.

“The innovation emerging from West Virginia and the entire Mid-Atlantic region is truly remarkable,” added Ataes Aggarwal, CEO at Moodr Health. “We’re honored to represent this vibrant, forward-thinking community and excited to showcase the groundbreaking work we’re doing in mental health tech. Our mission is to ensure that mental health care is accessible, equitable, and compassionate for everyone.”

“This is a pivotal moment for Moodr Health,” said Jackie Lytton, Chief Marketing and Branding Officer for Moodr Health. “Competing in San Francisco not only allows us to bring attention to our technology but also opens doors for partnerships and further expansion, highlighting West Virginia’s talent, innovation, and leadership. We’re ready to showcase our solution and make a lasting impact.”
